WHY A MUTUAL

Cover you can believe in.

Conventional pet cover sells you a contract on an uncertain future. That is gharar, and it is why so many Muslim cat owners go without. Mishmish Cover is built differently: a Fund owned by its members, who pay in together and help each other when a cat falls ill. No contract on the unknown, no interest, no shareholders.

No gharar

Help comes from the Fund’s discretion, not from a contract on an uncertain event. That is what keeps it halal, and what keeps it outside the rules written for insurance.

No riba

No interest is involved in any transaction, anywhere. The Fund’s account earns none and pays none, the Fund never borrows, and members’ contributions are never lent out.

No shareholders

The Fund belongs to its members. A fixed fee runs the mutual; everything else goes into the Fund, and nobody profits from it. In a good year, whatever the Fund didn’t need after grants and reserves may be donated to charities the members choose.

Built for Muslim cat owners. Open to every cat owner who wants cover without the contract.

Where your contribution goes

65%

35%

65% goes into the member-owned Fund: grants first, reserves for the future, then any year-end surplus may go to the charities members choose.

35% is the fixed fee for running the mutual: the people, the systems and the vet-written guides.

WHAT MEMBERSHIP GIVES YOU

Serious cover, from people who share your values.

One monthly contribution. Up to £2,000 a year at any UK vet. A person on the other end when it matters.

Up to £2,000 a year

So the size of the bill isn’t the size of the decision.

Any UK vet

So you’re never told your vet doesn’t count.

Paid to your bank

So you’re not chasing a payout while your cat recovers.

Human decisions

So a real person reads your cat’s file, not a formula.

Good years do good

So a healthy year isn’t wasted. What’s left may go to charity.

Community

So 2 a.m. questions don’t turn into 8 a.m. emergencies.

THE COVER

What the Fund can help with, and what it can’t.

Illness, injury and dental, at any UK vet, up to £2,000 a year above a £99 excess. Routine care and pre-existing conditions are not included, and we say so up front.

What’s included

Illness and injury: consultations, diagnostics, imaging, surgery, hospitalisation, prescribed medication

Dental illness and injury, where your cat has had a vet dental check in the last 12 months

Up to £2,000 per cat per membership year, refreshed every year, ongoing conditions included

100% above the £99 excess; 80% from your cat’s 8th birthday

What’s not

Routine and preventive care: vaccinations, worming, flea treatment, neutering, routine dental cleaning

Pre-existing conditions

Behavioural therapy and behaviourist referrals

Alternative and complementary therapies

Third-party liability, loss, theft, travel, boarding or death

Pre-existing conditions are excluded — which is why the day to join is a day when nothing is wrong.

THE GIVEBACK

What the Fund doesn’t spend, it gives.

Whatever the Fund has left at the end of the year, after grants and reserves, may be donated to three charities. You choose one when you join.

No balances and nothing to claim. The three numbers are published each year.

Mishmish Cover is not an insurance company. The benefits of membership are discretionary and are subject to the Rules.

HOW TO SUBMIT A VET BILL

Three steps, no forms to print.

When it happens, this is all you’ll have to do.

01

Visit any UK vet

Get your cat treated first. Pay the practice as normal.

02

Send us the bill

Email the invoice and clinical history to requests@mishmishcover.com, or upload them on the site.

03

Decided within 5 working days

A Grants Officer reads your request. If the Fund grants it, the money is paid to your bank.

HOW IT COMPARES

A mutual, not a contract.

Same vets, same £2,000 a year. No contract on the unknown, no Insurance Premium Tax, and in a good year what the Fund doesn’t need may go to charity.

BEFORE YOU JOIN

Questions, answered.

No — and that’s the point. Insurance is haram because it sells you a contract on an uncertain future. Mishmish Cover is a fund owned by its members: you pay in monthly, and when your cat needs a vet, you send us the bill and the Fund helps. The difference is legal, not practical — help comes from the Fund’s discretion rather than a contract, which is what makes it halal and what keeps it outside insurance regulation. It also means the Fund isn’t covered by the Financial Ombudsman or the FSCS; disputes go to internal review and an independent mediator.

£29 a month for cats joining under 8, £39 a month for cats joining aged 8 to 10. Annual is 12 times the monthly amount: £348 or £468. No discounts, no uplifts.

A fixed 35% runs the mutual: the people, the systems, the vet-written guides. The other 65% goes into the Fund, which is owned by the members and only ever pays for cats. At the end of each year, whatever the Fund hasn’t needed after grants and reserves may be donated to the three charities members choose. No one else takes a penny.

Illness and injury at any UK vet, and dental illness and injury where your cat has had a dental check in the last 12 months. The Fund can help with up to £2,000 per cat per membership year, above a £99 excess.

£99 per condition per membership year. You pay the first £99 of each condition; the Fund may grant 100% above that, or 80% from your cat’s 8th birthday.

Email the invoice and clinical history to requests@mishmishcover.com or upload them at mishmishcover.com/submit-a-bill. A Grants Officer decides within 5 working days and any grant is paid to your bank.

You pay the whole bill, or you make a decision no owner wants to make. The average bill is £685; emergencies run £1,500–£3,000. That’s what £29 a month is for.

Because anything your cat has today is a pre-existing condition tomorrow, and cover can’t help with it. The cheapest day to join is one when your cat is well.

The system prepares a memo from your vet bill and clinical history, the waiting periods and the Rules. A Grants Officer reads it, decides whether the Fund can help, and records the amount and reasons. A person makes every decision, within 5 working days.

You can ask for an internal review. If you still disagree after that, you can refer the matter to an independent mediator. The process is set out in section 10 of the Rules.
